Valerie + Seth | Yorktown, Virginia | Engagement Photographer

The weather the day of Valerie + Seth’s engagement session was a major roller coaster. It was all over the place. 35% to 20% to 55% to 100% to 0% chance of rain during the time we were planning to shoot. Woah! It changed so many times in the span of the three hours before we were to begin. We lucked out, though. The rains had come and gone by the time we started and it left the most gorgeous, soft light! All the vegetation was fresh and green. This was my first time shooting in Yorktown. Most clients tend to want to stay in the lower part of Hampton Roads and I am so grateful these two wanted to head up north. It is always inspiring shooting somewhere new. Between the quaint historical buildings, little courtyards, and riverfront Yorktown offers a great variety for photographs. Enjoy some of my favorites from their session. Cute puppy alert ahead! Can’t wait for Valerie + Seth’s wedding at Cousiac Manor in Lanexa, Virginia later this year.

Ashly + Jordan | Town Center Virginia Beach | Engagement Photographer

Ashly, Jordan and their adorable labradoodle met up with me at Town Center in Virginia Beach a couple of weeks ago for their engagement session. We had fun exploring the “city” blocks and eating yummy cupcakes from Just Cupcakes. Enjoy all the furry cuteness overload! P.S. If you are not having a good day, Google “Labradoodle”. It is sure to warm your heart, lift your spirits….and make you want to adopt one!

A love Story + A New Chapter | Personal

Today marks a special day, for two reasons. First, it is my 4-year wedding anniversary! Can not believe how fast the past few years have gone. What is really crazy is how much has changed with the wedding industry since I was planning my own wedding. Brides today don’t know what it was like planning a wedding without Pinterest. That’s right. It was good old Google searches and browsing the few wedding blogs that were out there. It was hard for me to make decisions then, I can only imagine what it is like when you have so much information at your pinning fingertips!

I got lucky when Drew walked into my life. They say when you are not looking you will find the one. That is exactly how our love story started. And speaking of our story, a new chapter is starting for us. Drum roll please….the Streets are adopting! I know what all you cat mama’s are thinking, another fur-baby?!? I wish, Drew cut me off at two. It is a real human this time. For those who know Drew and I, you know we are not ones to spread all of the details of our life on social media. This post is much more personal that anything I have published before.

We have been trying for a baby for almost our entire marriage with no success naturally. Those of you who have been there understand how disheartening it can be, month after month, year after year. You get married and are so excited to start a family. Sometimes it isn’t that easy. I would never wish these emotional struggles on anyone. Until you go through it, it is difficult to grasp. After some long conversations, we have decided that adoption was the right next step for us and we could not be more excited! It is a very long and very expensive process but we are determined. If you want to read a little more about our story, you can do so here: . I will be using that link to give updates over the next couple of years on the progress.

We struggled with infertility for about 11 years before Cody was placed with us, and then we finalized his adoption 4 years later. Great things come to those who wait. 🙂 I know you will be amazing parents! Many blessings. xxoo

Whoever that child ends up being is going to be SO loved! What an amazing gift, both to be given a nurturing home to grow up in and a loving family and also to be given a child to love. I’m so sorry for your struggles but I know God has a plan for your family 🙂 Love you friend!

Caroline + Ethan | Virginia Beach Engagement Photographer

I am getting super lucky, not only with awesome clients, but with great weather for their sessions! It was a gorgeous Sunday when I met up with Caroline + Ethan in Virginia Beach for their engagement session. They wanted to change outfits and end up at the beach, so we started at the Adam Thoroughgood House while the sun was still a bit bright. I have not shot there in awhile and it was nice to go back. I forgot how quaint it is. Caroline’s new dress was so cute and perfect for the spot. I love when clients want to get dressed up for their session. It is a special time! After a change of outfits, we ended at Chicks Beach and was welcomed with a beautiful, warm sunset.

Caroline + Ethan have such sweet personalities and I can not wait to get them in front of my camera again for their wedding at the Founders Inn in September!

Makeup – Makeup by Kim Porter {Kim did a stellar job!}

Beth Hamilton - Really beautiful job Sarah! There are so many good ones. I LOVE the ones with that big tree toward the beginning!

Jenny + Scott | Virginia Beach Engagement Photographer

Did we luck out on great weather the day of Jenny + Scott’s engagement session! It was 70 degrees and sunny. Gorgeous! As I write this, just over a week later, it is 28 degrees with snow and ice on the ground. Ah yes, the unpredictable winter weather we have here in Virginia.

We started their engagement session at one of my favorite winter locations in Hampton Roads, Pleasure House Point. I love all of the neutral colors in the grasses there this time of year. Then our next stop was the sand on Chic’s Beach. Jenny + Scott wanted to incorporate their love of the beach. In addition, we had a little photo-sesh with their bikes, an activity they both enjoy doing together. It is fun to see clients incorporate something they both share in common or an activity into their engagement session! I had so much fun with these two and can’t wait for their wedding in August!
