Coral Gables Wedding

Last Saturday I was fortunate enough to participate as a third shooter with Lara Rios of Lara Rios Fine Art Photography, a local photographer (my wedding photographer!) and her second shooter to a wedding in Coral Gables. A much bigger wedding than the first one, with a larger budget overall, and much faster paced. The bride’s dress was gorgeous!

At the reception the photographer let me use two lenses that I had not used before. Let’s just say I came home wanting to get on the internet and buy them. She spoiled me! I was also able to get a lot of good practice out of my external flash during the reception too (which I had only used once before).  So far I am really enjoying this wedding side to photographer. I like that is keeps me on my toes the whole day and really having to be a quick thinker. It really pushes me to be better.

I took about 2,000 pictures that day but here is just a taste.  To see Lara’s work, please click here to visit her website.

Lara Rios - Beautiful job Sarah, you make me proud girl… Thanks for coming, it was a real pleasure and fun having you coming along, you’re welcome any time in the future!!! Keep up the good work!

I met this little cutie-patutie while on a walk in downtown Miami with my younger brother + sister-in-law, who had just gotten back from a cruise. His name is Milo and his owner was nice enough to let us get some sweet puppy time in. He is a 4-month old puggle who had just had been to see the vet for a little surgery (hence the cone around his neck). Poor thing just wanted to scratch behind his ears but couldn’t reach. Fast forward two weeks, I was out running last night and guess who I ran into!? Milo! No more cone. He was happily playing with two other dogs so I didn’t stop to say hello. Some of these pictures were just too cute not to post! Sorry if I made you want to get a puggle after looking at these. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you!

Tiffany’s Diaper Party

On Saturday, I attended a diaper party for my good friend, Tiffany.  She is due with her second child (it’s a girl!) in a couple short weeks.  I started this post originally to just post a picture of the cupcakes I made for the party, but decided to post a couple of other pictures from the party. I was shooting inside (which I normally don’t) and was using my external flash (which I have only used twice before and still not all that familiar with it). Wasn’t that happy with the pictures overall….but have learned from my mistakes and moving on.

I am getting distracted here. Back to the most important part of this post. The cupcakes. Oh yes, these cupcakes are a little piece of heaven. Lemon cream cupcakes with a lemon cream cheese frosting. All from scratch. I couldn’t even tell you the last time I made cupcakes from a box. I love to bake and enjoy any opportunity to make bake goods. Baking, decorating, you name it. I may have eaten some for lunch yesterday that were left over.  I had so many that I left some with the hostess before I left the party too. She left me a message on Facebook letting me know that she was eating them for breakfast this morning. They are really that delicious! If anyone wants the recipe, let me know. I modified it a little bit, but it’s easy to follow. The gum paste plumeria flowers on top I made as well. These are simple to make and anyone can whip them up in a couple minutes. Too bad these pictures are not scratch-n-sniff!

The Very First One

Last Friday I had the opportunity to second-shoot with a local photographer at a wedding in Miami Beach. First and foremost I want to thank Becca of Becca Borge Photography . Words can not express how grateful I am of her for allowing me to have that experience and giving me the chance to learn! Not many professionals give back the way she did for me, and I will forever be grateful to have had that opportunity. If you would like to see her pictures from this wedding and others, please click here.

The wedding was held at The Palms Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach. It was a small wedding, about 50 guests. The bride and groom are both musician and composed+recorded their own music for the ceremony. How cool is that!?

This was my very first time shooting a wedding. I was nervous. It felt like the first day at a new school and you don’t really know what to do or what to expect. I wasn’t getting paid and was assured there was no pressure to produce anything, so there was no reason to be nervous, but I was! Becca was very patient with me. She allowed me to ask questions throughout the day and was happy to answer them.  I had a lot, and I mean A LOT of bad photos! But I had more turn out than I had expected.  I was satisfied with the results considering I had not photographed an event like this before. I only have one lens (50mm), too, that I shot this event with.  Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Becca Borge - Love them! You did so great! Glad to have you come along with me 🙂

Lara Rios - Nice Sarah! I’m so happy to see my second bride going into wedding photography 🙂 I’m going to invite you to a wedding soon! XOXO

Jennie Rogers - Great job, Sarah! You have a unique eye for composition that I love. You will only get better with practice!

Catherine - Great job on your first wedding ! You did better then I did FOR sure my first time 🙂 keep it up !!

Look What We Found

I had a cousin visiting this past week. While we were at the Deering Estate they started setting up for a wedding. So, me being a curious person + a shutter bug, I started taking pictures of their wedding decor.  Their center pieces on their reception tables were gorgeous. Not too over done. No one seemed to care I was ‘hovering’, but I was very careful not to touch anything and was quick about it. We ran into the bride + groom too getting first look pictures taken. They were a cute couple!
