A Day With Mom

My parents have been wintering the past couple of years in Ft. Myers, FL.  One day, while visiting them recently, my mom and I set out on a full day of exploration. We drove over to Sanibel Island and Captiva Island. We drove from one end of the island to the other, finding all sorts of fun things to take pictures of along the way. I do regret not taking a picture of the yummy, mom+pop ice cream shop we stopped at for an afternoon treat and some of the cutest kids eating their dripping dessert.

I wished I used a film camera sometimes. For the reason that it is more expensive to shoot with than digital and it would help with the self control. Man, I took about a million pictures of birds. Birds! Really unnecessary. But really fun. I am on a fixed lens and I could not believe how close they were letting me get. I just kept shooting away! That wasn’t the bad part, the bad part is going through all those pictures of birds when I got back to the computer. No fun, no bueno. As I was going through and deciding which pictures I wanted to post, I realized there were a lot….again. (Another reason why going back to film might be a good choice at times) Thanks to my mom for a fun day and being so patient while I took 80 ba-gillion pictures that day!

Lara Rios - You are doing such a great job Sarah, I’m so proud of you 🙂

The Biltmore Hotel [Part One]

Aaahhh, the lovely Biltmore Hotel. Last weekend’s location for another Sarah + Jenny photography outing. Such a beautiful, grand hotel tucked away in a very stately neighborhood in Coral Gables, FL. It opened in 1926 and even comes complete with a 150′ by 225′ swimming pool. The minute you step foot into the lobby you feel like you are in a different country. If you haven’t been and are in the area I highly suggest you make it a point to stop here and look around!

This hotel is very popular as a wedding venue and usually has something going on in most, if not all of the ballrooms on the weekends. However, it was a very rare Sunday afternoon and all of the ballrooms were open. We were able to go in and take pictures. There ended up being so many pictures that I wanted to share, so I am going to break the blog post up into two parts. Stop back soon for part two!

Jennie Rogers - Beautiful Photos Sarah, you really do have a gift. You can come photograph my puppy anytime – its very hard to photograph your own dog, as they are always focused on you!

Elisha Moody - wow!! you really have a gift! I’d love to talk to you about Bryce’s 3 year old pictures, if you’re interested!

An Afternoon Walk

Last weekend I had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with my friend, Tiffany, and her son, Marcus. He is a cutie pie, to say the least, and is a hit with the older ladies. Two minutes after we got to the restaurant for dinner he was already flirting with the three elderly women sitting at the booth next to us.

We went for a walk that afternoon and I took along my camera.  I don’t take too many pictures of people these days. It can be pretty intimidating. Worrying that the client won’t like how they turn out. Wondering if they are good enough. You know that saying, “You’re your own worst critic”? Yep, that is true in my case. The good thing with digital is that you have a little screen right there in front of you that shows you the result….but key word, little. Until you zoom in or load it onto your computer you really don’t know how it turned out.  Right now this is just a hobby I am passionate about and truly enjoy. So as long I have friends who don’t mind a camera lens in there face every now and then I am just fine with practicing.

Lara Rios - Wow Sarah I’m so proud of you! The blog and the pictures look great 🙂 Congratulations I wish you all the best and I’m here if you need me!!!

Shawn Balon - Sarah!!! The pics are great! Glad you are really getting use out of the camera. It makes me want to go out in the city to take photos. Great Job!!!

Lynn Whipple - Sarah, your blog is beautiful!

My First Photo-Blog + Furry Friends

Ah. Here is it. My very first blog. A little scary and exciting all at the same time. I love photography and now that I am back using an SLR (after some time apart due to a break-in/burglary at an apartment I lived in and my very first SLR disappeared into the night) I needed something to do with all of these pictures I have been taking. So I thought starting a photo-blog would be the best idea. The last time I built a website was in college using 0 + 1’s and before that in high school, so I am starting all over in the world of websites. It sure has changed! My apologizes if links are not working right. I am also learning very quickly that free WordPress templates are limiting and very frustrating for someone who is particular about the way they want their website to look. But we all have to start from somewhere, right? Baby steps. I still have A LOT to learn and more equipment to purchase and test out, but for now I am just having fun. That is what hobbies are for, right? I hope these pictures help to inspire you as they do me.

Over the holidays, I found out that animals are some of the best subjects that breath, eat, walk and talk (ruff!) to photograph. They don’t care how long you have a camera stuck in their face for the most part and they don’t give you a time limit of how long you are allowed to take pictures of them. I think they are just hoping you are there to give them a little t.r.e.a.t.  or two. Here are a few pictures I took over the holidays of man’s best friend and some other furry friends.
