Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown + Yorktown on Film | Travel

My parents and nephew came to visit a few weeks ago and we did the tourist thing, touring Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. I have started using my Contax film camera for vacation photos and decided to take it along with me on this mini stay-cation trip.

Virginia Beach Engagement | Sheppard + Parke

When your client mentions their family owns one of the quaint and colorful cabanas on the oceanfront and thought it might be a great place for an engagement session, of course I said absolutely! Not only are they the most adorable buildings, but the fact that they mean something to them makes it even more special. This was my first meeting with Sheppard + Parke and I instantly felt comfortable with them. So incredibly warm and welcoming! I felt like I had known them forever.

As a fur-mama, I know what how special your pets are. It was so sweet to want to incorporate their baby, Nell, into the session. She was super sweet and very energetic (did someone say, “ball”!?). The flower necklace may not have lasted long, but she looked adorable.

Really looking forward to their wedding this spring at the Princess Anne Country Club. With Kim Wadsworth (kimwadsworth.com) doing Sheppard’s makeup again, she is going to be one gorgeous bride! EEkkk, can’t wait!

First landing State Park | Engagement | Virginia

I had been wanting to take a couple out lately and play around shooting some film. I have been only shooting with film for personal projects, aka vacation, and wanted to practice on moving subjects. The newly engaged Chelsea + Alex were sweet enough to volunteer a couple hours of their time and we met up at First Landing State Park. As a thank you, I took along my digital camera so they would have some portraits. You know, incase I totally bombed the film portion of the day. Enjoy some of the digitals from this mini session!

Neon District Engagement | Norfolk | Katelyn + Matt

The Neon District in Norfolk was a fun and unique spot for this engagement session! When brainstorming ideas with Katelyn + Matt, they were looking for something a little different. Something that fit their personalities and who they are as a couple. Matt wanted to incorporate some architecture (as I love to do, too!) and the color filled walls were the perfect match.

Their soon-t0-be marriage is not only joining the lives of Katelyn + Matt but also Matt’s two boys. Since they are so special to them, they wanted a few shots with the boys at the beginning of the session. As most boys, they were not super jazzed about having to smile for the camera. They were troopers, though, and did an awesome job! So glad I got to meet them. I can’t wait to have Katelyn + Matt in front of my lens again, but for now here are a few of my favs from their engagement session last week!

First Landing State Park | Engagement | Hyo + Justin

When I schedule a client’s engagement session, I always schedule a primary date and a backup date. This session is the perfect example of why I do just that!

This First Landing State Park engagement session ended up being taken over a span of two days. The first time we met up, the weather was looking great for the evening and all was well. Then, thirty minutes into the session the sky darkened rapidly! The storm came out of no where. As soon as we go back into our cars and on the road, there was a crazy downpour. I knew I wanted to meet up with them again since their session was cut super short. We met up a few days later on our backup date we had scheduled. No one had to worry about what dates we were all available again, it was already set. It was completely worth it! We had beautiful, cooler, weather on the second day and able to take our time.

These two were nervous about their session, but I don’t know why because they were naturals! I can’t wait for their wedding in October at the Hermitage Museum + Gardens!
